#Tuesdayshoeday: The latex maxi boots of Dior.

We first saw it at the Haute Couture Fall 2015. Later at Prêt-à-Porter FW 2015. In both Christian Dior collections, Raf Simons surprised us with this: some infinite-long boots, available in thousand versions y with a 10cm transparent heel. In patent leather, latex, vinyl…call it whatever. At first you can just think two things. First, “I love them and they repel me at the same time”. Segundo, “¿Who the hell is going to wear that apart from Anna hello Russo?”.

What’s true is that we could already see it in the streets. I guess they though like me, and the love-hate quickly became infinite love at the third time you look right at them. ¿Where’s the problem? Here: let’s see if Zara is able to do something similar and try to sell it to “real people” (if I see somebody with one of those on the street, I cry). They’re actually really sticking but I believe at the end they are like grey color: it doesn’t go with anything, so it goes with everything.

Of course, the queen of street style Chiara Ferragni was the first one wearing them already in the selfsame Haute Couture runway of the brand. Rihanna, as always, combining it with real discreet looks. Nieves Alvarez, looking all a little bit dark but I like her a little bit more. Jaime King, who didn’t have enough being pregnant and wearing the boots, she also wanted sequins at her dress.

I don’t know what you think about it, but I believe Raf Simons totally nailed it on one hand, but on the other hand he ended up creating something not really practical or functional (let’s apply this last ting to the whole FW2015 collection). But hey, that how the New Look by Christian Dior was defined after all, wasn’t it.

What do you think about these new Dior boots? Would you vote for a low-cost version? Or do you think Raf Simons was out of his mind when he designed them?

  1. I like the concept, but I don’t like that thicker heel. If they were of a more pointy toe and a kitten heel, or rounded toe and completely flat heel, they would be a complete covet for me. In addition, since these are latex and not leather, they should NEVER be expensive. EVER. I would go with a less expensive version that I could afford. Honestly, I like them!
